Shah Rukh Khan has never faced discrimination for being a Muslim

Shah Rukh Khan has always maintained that he has never faced discrimination for being a Muslim. But when he was detained for about two hours by airport officials in U.S. this week, he made sure every media carried his story. Following this, there have been debates over the possibility of Shah Rukh trying to milk this episode for the promotion of his forthcoming film ‘My Name Is Khan’ being directed by his buddy Karan Johar and reportedly based on the same subject of community discrimination.

So would it be right to say that the Badshah of Bollywood is leaving no stone unturned to play up this episode for the sake of free international mileage worth crores that his film would get? Is King Khan flashing the community card to boost the pre-release hype for ‘My Name Is Khan’?
Two years ago, Bollywood PR guru Dale Bhagwagar had propelled his client Shilpa Shetty into international limelight, when he’d publicly admitted that what Shilpa was facing inside the walls of ‘Celebrity Big Brother’ in UK, was indeed racial discrimination. The rest is history.

He says further, “So if Shah Rukh is fuming over an episode which angered and troubled him, why blame him? He’s a public figure, and a huge one at that. He has all the right to voice his opinion,” adds the celebrity publicist.Like always, this time too, Dale does have a point. After all, we are living in a world driven by spice and sensationalism.

Priyanka is a very good actress Said Shahid

Chopra to the skies saying she is at her “career’s best right now”.
“I always knew Priyanka is a very good actress and after working on ‘Kaminey’ with her, I realised that she has given one of the most splendid performances of her career. I think Priyanka is at her career’s best right now,” Shahid told reporters here Sunday evening.

“Apart from that she is a team player and it’s so great she did this film despite knowing that the hero has a double role. She is a self-assured actor and very confident. She knows whatever she does she’ll give her best and she’ll be noticed and appreciated by the audience,” he added.

Reminiscing on his camaraderie with the beauty queen-turned-actress while filming the movie, he said: “It was amazing and I had a lot of fun working with her. We started our careers almost at the same time (2003).”

The 28-year-old actor was in the capital to be a part of BIG 92.7 FM’s ‘Dilli Ka Kaminaaapan Quotient’ contest and promote his film “Kaminey” at the radio station. The contest was won by 15 listeners who had to prove that they are the biggest ‘kamina’ of the city.

Releasing Friday, “Kaminey” has been produced and distributed by UTV Motion Pictures and written-directed by Vishal Bhardwaj. Writer-turned-director Amol Gupte makes his onscreen debut in the film.

Shahid is on a chain of promotion visits and has been noticed marketing the movie alone, without the leading lady.

He explained: “Me and Priyanka are doing a lot of promotions together and also individually. We are together promoting (the film) and we recently did a press conference in Bangalore.”

“Kaminey” has had its share of controversies too considering a reported on-off relationship between Shahid and Priyanka.

Shahid kept mum on this but insisted that such rumours added to “pressure” in a celebrity’s life and career.

“People say that any kind of promotion is good promotion but I don’t personally subscribe to that… The rumours add pressure. It’s difficult all the time dealing with all the speculations about your personal life but I guess as an actor it becomes a part of your job… its an occupational hazard. But it’s not a great feeling… you have to learn to deal with it.From:www.thaindian.com

Kajol turns 34 while Genelia is 22.

Bollywood actresses Kajol and Genelia D'Souza celebrate their birthday today. Kajol turns 34 while Genelia is 22.

Born to veteran actress Tanuja, Kajol has been married to Ajay Devgan. The couple has been blessed with a beautiful girl, Nysa. Having ruled the box-office for over a decade, Kajol has emerged as one of the best leading ladies in Bollywood.

As Kajol is a car freak, she’s got a perfect present from her husband who has gifted her white Audi Q7.

The actress will be soon seen with her favorite co-star Shahrukh Khan in Karan Johar’s “My Name is Khan”.

Kajol also works with an NGO Shiksha, a charity devoted to the education of destitute children apart from being an actor.

As with Genelia D'Souza, turns 22 today, there is no looking back for the ‘Jaane Tu girl’. She is a new bee in the tinsel town and has gained immediate recognition after a smash hit, "Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na" opposite Imran Khan.

First seen in “Tujhe Meri Kasam” opposite Riteish Deshmukh, this young lady is now the brand ambassador of various products. Her film “Life Partner” is about to release this month.

For the miniseries “Bollywood Hero"

For the miniseries “Bollywood Hero,” which begins tonight on IFC, former "Saturday Night Live" cast member Chris Kattan went to India to make a film about former "Saturday Night Live" cast member Chris Kattan going to India to make a film. In spite of its meta-fictional aspects, it does not comment on or play with screen conventions, Hollywood or Indian (apart from its being, like a Bollywood film, around three hours long and dotted with dance numbers). It is merely conventional.

Kattan, who clearly does not mind a joke at his own expense, plays himself as a C-list actor who dreams of being Harrison Ford, even as his contemptuous agent (Toby Huss) has booked him a role as "the second male alien lead on a budding cable network TV show." At his lowest moment, he meets Monty (Ali Fazal), who has come to Hollywood to find an American star for a film whose title translates as "Peculiar Dancing Boy," described over and over as "a serious critique of imperialism and the caste system told through the medium of dance." Given how little you ever see of it, however, it might be anything at all.From:www.calendarlive.com

Shilpa Shetty recently launched her own spa in Mumbai

Bollywood's leggy lass Shilpa Shetty recently launched her own spa in Mumbai. She was touched by Sushmita's gesture. Sush not only attended the event but also gave her best wishes to Shilpa.

Shilpa has described her elation on her blog, "Sushmita came and was so gracious and warm. It's very rare to see actresses being non-competitive and encouraging. She not only came to wish me, but genuinely felt happy for me. I was very touched by her gesture. God bless her for that, it`s such a beautiful quality to have."

So can we assume that Sush and Shilpa are the new 'best friends' in the B-Town.

Indian star Emraan Hashmi was dubbed the 'serial kisser'

At the beginning of his burgeoning film career, Indian star Emraan Hashmi was dubbed the 'serial kisser' owing to his choice of racy films - a thing of rarity in Bollywood. But just last week, the actor was made to wear a new tag - one based on his religion.

Recently, the actor was house hunting in Mumbai's Pali Hill area, a rich neighborhood that's in many ways akin to LA's Beverly Hills. When a housing society there denied the actor a home after he had already paid the initial token amount, Hashmi claimed it was because he was Muslim. He is not the first to make this allegation. It has been echoed by many from the Islamic community in the city. "Am I a criminal or a terrorist?" a visibly upset Hashmi asked publicly. Now, even as the housing society continues to cite his celebrity status (and not his religion) as their cause for refusal, the state minorities' commission has issued a notice to the building's managing committee.

The reactions to Hashmi's claim have been manifold. In a film industry largely dominated by Muslims, Hashmi got surprisingly little sympathy from his Bollywood brethren. India's reigning superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan came out to say that the fact that Muslim actors are at the top in India, is testament to the county's secular nature. A local politician even slammed Hashmi for making inflammatory remarks and instigating religious divide. And the blogger world in Pakistan is abuzz with this story, one of which is calling secular India a 'myth'.

But others from the Indian Islamic community assert that Hashmi's cry for change isn't a publicity ploy. Young urban Muslims like 26 year-old Anamara Baig looking to rent/buy a space in Mumbai are disoriented by the 'so-called cosmopolitan' city. "I knew that certain housing societies did not permit Muslims to live there, but when I experienced it first-hand this week, it made me sad. My real estate options are already cut by 50% because of my religion," says the program reviewer for an NGO , adding, "I love Mumbai, so I was justifying the discrimination to myself. But I won't take up for the city anymore."

And while most housing societies don't openly tell a buyer that religion will be an issue, brokers do. One, on the condition of anonymity, revealed, "They usually beat around the bush, cooking up other excuses as a guise. But religious discrimination, mostly targeted towards Muslims has been going on for years." In fact, this time last year, another Bollywood star, Saif Ali Khan told the media that because he knew about the phenomenon, he went straight to a Muslim builder "to avoid complications." Muslims in the Indian capital of New Delhi too, have said that what happened to the actor in Mumbai, is something they face on a daily basis.

Now, after days of hype and hoopla, the owner of the home has backtracked altogether, saying that he does not want to sell at all. Not to Hashmi, not to anyone. But the actor says it's no longer about the flat. "It is more of an ethical problem and not only about Muslims. People of other communities are facing a similar problem and any kind of discrimination should not be tolerated," he told a city broadsheet. Emraan Hashmi is showing no signs of backing down from the larger fight. It seems like the 'serial kisser' has been cast in a new role, and the minority movement in India has found an unlikely supporter.From:www.huffingtonpost.com

Bollywood star Hashmi says no house for him in Mumbai

NEW DELHI - The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Saturday criticised film star Emraan Hashmi, who has been denied a residence in a Mumbai colony, and said he was wrong in projecting his personal grievance as that of all Muslims.

“One actor is trying to associate his personal issue with a community. This will aggravate the distrust within society towards the minority community instead of creating sympathy for them, BJP vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said.

He also said that by “blackmailing” society in the name of minority community some people were trying to break the religious harmony of Indian society.

Hashmi Friday accused a Mumbai housing society of refusing him permission to buy a flat because he is Muslim. Several Bollywood personalities have made similar complaints in the past.
